Medical Student Opportunities
Elizabeth E. Ellis, M.D.
University of Missouri School of Medicine
R5, University of Rochester School of Medicine Urology Resident
When I did a sub-I at the University of Rochester I knew I found a hidden gem. I chose to continue my residency training here after that experience due to the strong academic emphasis and unparalleled resident autonomy. I knew that this program would open many doors for me and enable me to excel to my highest potential. Five years in, I know I made the right decision.
Visiting students
Visiting students interested in urology have the opportunity to participate in a 4-week sub-internship. The university offers onsite visiting student rotations beginning June through the summer. Visiting students must be final year medical students and must apply through VSAS (Visiting Student Application System) on the AAMC’s Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO).
Our department also offers a wide range of research opportunities that are available year round.
The University also has a Visiting Clerkship Program designed to give students from backgrounds underrepresented in medicine an opportunity to experience training at URMC during the months of August-November. This program is coordinated by the Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI) and the Office of the Registrar. For a description of electives offered at URSMD please see our Clinical Course Catalog.
The Department of Urology is committed to providing opportunities for underrepresented medical students interested in pursuing a surgical/urological career. Toward this end, we have established a surgical sub intern scholarship award program. Selected students will be provided a clinical faculty mentor, research faculty mentor and a medical student mentor. Students selected for this award will be provided a stipend to assist with expenses (Diversity Scholarship Program ).
