Career Development Program
A multi-directional approach for research translation requires the seeding of new ideas, as well as the development of productive interdisciplinary research teams of basic and clinical scientists, and preparing the next generation for success.
To assist in achieving these goals, the EHSC supports an active Career Development Program that builds upon our ongoing success in mentoring junior faculty and attracting new faculty and integrates with other career development initiatives and efforts including the UR CTSI, Office of Faculty Development, Office for Inclusion and Culture, and Center for Career Development.
The EHSC has a long and successful tradition of recruiting and mentoring junior faculty, attracting new investigators to environmental health sciences, and fostering faculty development across all career stages. We use four strategies to achieve these goals:
- Recruiting and mentoring junior faculty to enhance their research careers and develop leadership
- Recruiting and mentoring of investigators new to environmental health sciences research
- Providing all Center investigators with opportunities and access to resources and technologies that will advance their careers, research programs, teaching, and mentoring of others
- Enhancing the participation and persistence of individuals from underrepresented backgrounds in environmental health science careers
Resources from the Pilot Project Program, targeted Faculty Development Funds, and IHSFC services are utilized to engage new faculty, enhance the likelihood of successful collaborations with center faculty, and facilitate the ability to perform cutting-edge basic science, clinical, and translational research in environmental health sciences.
