Restoring and preserving vision through research, education, patient care, and technology transfer, the missions of the Flaum Eye Institute are greatly enhanced by the generosity and service of David and Ilene Flaum, in whose honor we have renamed our program. We are also pleased to dedicate our facility at 210 Crittenden Boulevard as the Adeline P. Lutz Pavilion in honor of the generous gift from Walter and Adeline Lutz. These two philanthropic milestones marked completion of the highly successful first phase of our growth and signaled the beginning of the second phase designed to reach our long term goal of a top 10 national ranking in NIH funding and in public recognition.
Our experienced sub-specialists offer expert care and consultative services. Highly specialized diagnostic testing, advanced surgical intervention, and optimized management of the most complex eye conditions are among the advantages we bring to Rochester and our region. Patients from around the world seek our expertise in corneal keratoprosthetics, refractive surgical correction, imaging of retinal degenerative diseases, and treatment of orbital inflammatory processes. Our research teams of biologists, physicists, engineers and physicians are committed to translating basic discoveries into clinical advances, so that many novel diagnostics and therapeutics become available at the Flaum Eye Institute first.
The world-class caliber of our scientists and clinicians is central to our educational mission of training the future generation of ophthalmologists and updating our community physicians on recent advances in treatment of eye disease. The rapid growth of our faculty has been matched by an advanced infrastructure, including state of the art patient care and laboratory space, as well as advanced research and clinical equipment.
I am highly enthusiastic and optimistic that the Flaum Eye Institute, with the support of its patients, referring doctors, foundations, and donors will meet and exceed its goals.
