General Information
Call-In Hours and Family Spokesperson
We offer call-in hours 24 hours a day at (585) 341-6943. This allows the family spokesperson to call for updates on the progress of their loved one. We ask that you identify one family "spokesperson" at the time of the patient's admission to the ICU, to aid in communication flow and maximize the time we spend providing patient care.
Hotel and Lodging Services
We assist Strong Memorial Hospital and Highland Hospital patients and families with accommodations in Rochester. The Unit Secretary has a brochure featuring local hotels for those who travel a distance to visit their loved ones. We ask that you not spend the night in the waiting room, as we are not furnished with sleeping accommodations.
Photographs
For patient's privacy, we also ask that no photographs be taken in ICU without permission from the patient.
Food
The cafeteria is located on Level 1 of the hospital. Hours of operation are 6:30 am to 6:30 pm, seven days a week. It is closed between 3:30 pm and 4 pm daily. Vending machines are located on all levels of the hospital. A Subway deli is also available in the hospital.
Restrooms
Restrooms for visitors are located in the main lobby of the hospital.
Flowers
To avoid health issues, no living plants or flowers are permitted in the ICU or in patient rooms. Silk flowers and cards are a wonderful alternative.
Interfaith Chaplain Services
Chaplains are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by request.
Thank You's
Many families choose to express their gratitude to the ICU staff for the excellent care provided for their loved ones. Some families send cards and letters; others show their appreciation in the form of baked goods. Monetary gifts in kind have also been donated to the Highland Hospital ICU Fund. These funds have been used to provide additional educational opportunities for the staff.
