Are You Being Abused?

Vulnerable adults, both the elderly and those with disabilities, are sometimes abused or neglected by their caregivers or others. The Department of Social Services employs specially trained caseworkers to investigate and respond to reports of physical, emotional, or financial abuse and various types of neglect. Workers in this area are particularly sensitive to an adults’ right to make his own decisions, even when we do not agree with them. Except in rare instances, services are voluntary.

The abuse or maltreatment of children is against the law. Victims need an effective child protective service to prevent them from suffering further injury and impairment. 

The Statewide Central Register, also known as the "Hotline,” is available for reports alleging child abuse or maltreatment within New York State 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Voluntary reporters (for example, neighbors, relatives and concerned citizens) may call 1-800-342-3720 to make reports if you suspect a child has been harmed or is at risk. You can make a difference.

Domestic Violence & Rape Crisis Hotline ♦ 1-888-945-3970

The Cattaraugus County Victims Services Hotline can provide domestic violence victims and their children with temporary housing. The agency can assist domestic violence and rape victims with counseling, advocacy, court accompaniment, and other support services to victims.
