How Did You Choose Your Subspecialty Area?
I have been fascinated by the interplay of systems and factors that lead to the spread and pathogenesis of infectious diseases. During my PhD, I studied Trypanosoma brucei, the causative agent of Human African Trypanosomiasis, and my interests in neglected diseases deepened. After spending time with the clinical infectious diseases service, I decided this was the subspecialty path for me.
What is Unique about the PSTP Program at the University of Rochester?
I love that our program has a great deal of support integrated throughout the training process and a collaborative research community. There is ample mentorship and training at each level. I think this makes a huge difference in training successful physician scientists who are both excellent clinicians as well as competent scientists. The collegial community of young faculty as well as trainees stands out as one of our best features. There are a number of people to learn from and as well as to collaborate with. I feel like I'm part of a growing community of researchers.
How Would You Recommend the Program?
I would absolutely recommend it!
Something Cool About Yourself that has Nothing to do with Medicine or Science
I teach meditation and self transformation programs. I also love getting outdoors and engaging my creative side with hobbies like photography, sewing and dancing.
