Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology
The Division of Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology in University of Rochester Medical Center Department of Neurology’s is dedicated to the following:
- providing the highest level of care and support to patients with memory and cognitive disorders
- training the future clinicians and leaders of cognitive and behavioral neurology
- conducting clinical and translational research into the causes and treatments of disorders of cognition.
Members of the Division of Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology are committed to improving the quality of life for people in our community with disorders of cognition and their caregivers. This includes identifying ways to prevent loss of memory associated with aging as well as identifying people who have memory loss to determine what the cause of memory loss is. We have expertise in caring for people with Alzheimer’s disease and in addition to other causes of dementia such as dementia with Lewy bodies and the frontotemporal lobar degenerations. We work as a comprehensive, interdisciplinary team in a caring and accepting environment that has access to the highest level of testing and treatment but understand that caring for the caregiver is as important as caring for the person with memory loss. To accomplish these goals, we work closely with the entire University of Rochester Medical Center team and with local and national community organizations.
The care we provide to patients provides the foundation for the research and educational missions of the division. We aim to identify the causes of memory loss and dementia, identify new diagnostic techniques and even better treatments. Members of the Division also run educational programs that train the future clinicians, researchers and educators in cognitive and behavioral neurology.
