Program Details
Our three year Pediatric Pulmonology Fellowship is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and prepares fellows to sit for the subspecialty qualifying examination conducted by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP).
The opportunity exists for medicine-pediatrics trained individuals to pursue a combined five-year curriculum. At the completion of this curriculum, fellows are able to become certified in pediatric pulmonology, and dual certified in pulmonary disease and critical care medicine.
Fellows have extensive outpatient and inpatient experiences to develop expertise in the clinical diagnosis and management of children with breathing problems such as asthma, apnea, reactive airway disease (RAD), bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), congenital lung abnormalities, chronic respiratory failure/insufficiency, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection, and cystic fibrosis.
There is an abundance of research available within the Department of Pediatrics and the University of Rochester Medical Center. Research performed by the Division of Pediatric Pulmonology faculty focuses on improving our understanding and treatment of the pulmonary diseases that occur in children. Funded by agencies such as the National Institutes of Health and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, we conduct clinical trials to develop new therapies and cures for children with debilitating respiratory illness.
Opportunities exist for fellows to fulfill their research requirements while pursuing an advanced degree, including a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation (MS-CLI). Ninety-five percent of tuition is covered by the University.
