Mapping a research printer
This is one of the methods for each Windows and Apple for adding a printer to your device. You can also add a printer through Control Panel on Windows and through System Preferences on an Apple device.
Supported Computer Configuration
- The computer is URMC issued and supported.
- The URMC login being used is a valid and active.
- The computer is connected to URMC network (Wired or WiFi) or VPN (virtual private network) with proper URMC issued credentials.
Unsupported Configurations
- A personal computer
- A computer logged into the UR network
- A UR login authentication from UR
Windows 10 Instructions
- On your windows computer, please select the Windows Button on the bottom left of the desktop
- From the search box, please enter the path \\print-research and select enter.
- You will see a window with all of the available printers on the server. Please select the printer you wish to install.
- For this example, we will use the printer CVRI021
- Once you select your printer, the computer will download the correct driver and install the printer for you.
- Once you see the window below, your printer is installed and ready for use.
Mac Instructions
- Select the desktop of your computer. You will then see "Finder" listed on the top left of your screen.
- Select "go" and then "connect to server"
- In the connect to server window, please enter smb://smdnas/print-research and select Connect.
- You will see a window with all of the available printers on the server. Please select the printer you wish to install.

Once you select your printer, the computer will download the correct driver and install the printer for you. You will receive a notification once the printer has been installed.
