Eastman Institute for Oral Health
The Social Work program within the Eastman Institute for Oral Health focuses on resolving social problems related to oral care; many of the patients struggle with family issues, unreliable transportation, insufficient food, shelter and cultural/ language differences. This program utilizes a biopsychosocial model to address and facilitate eliminating gaps in patient care. The Social Work contributions in the dental setting also include resident/faculty education on critical psychosocial issues related such as child maltreatment, intimate partner violence, and development and implementation of grant funded projects to address oral health disparities.
