Objectives: The lectures will address the topics of oral diseases and pathologies, oral manifestations of systemic diseases, dental treatment of medically complex patients, chronic orofacial pain, and alternative medicine for oral diseases. Participants will be able to improve diagnostic skills of oral lesions and adjust dental treatment plans.
Meet the Speakers (in Alpha Order)
Sharon Elad, DMD, MSc, Eastman Institute for Oral Health, University of Rochester Medical Center, Rochester, NY
Dr. Elad holds joint appointments as a professor of dentistry and a professor of oncology at the University of Rochester, where she is Chair of the Division of Oral Medicine, at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health (EIOH). Before joining the faculty there, Dr. Elad held leading roles at the Hebrew University – Hadassah School of Dental Medicine in the Department of Oral Medicine. She was the Chair of the Israeli Society of Oral Medicine (2002-2010) and the General Secretary for the International Society of Oral Oncology (ISOO) (2005-2013).
Dr. Elad is the Head of educational courses at EIOH on oral medicine and dental management of medically complex patients. As the Co-chair of the Mucositis Study Group in the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer/International Society of Oral Medicine (MASCC/ISOO), she also leads various research projects.
Eli Eliav, DMD, MSc, PhD, Eastman Institute for Oral Health, UR Medical Center
Dr. Eliav is the Director of the Eastman Institute for Oral Health at the University of Rochester Medical Center and Vice Dean for Oral Health within its School of Medicine and Dentistry. A widely published expert in oral medicine and orofacial pain, Dr. Eliav was previously the Chair of the Department of Diagnostic Sciences, and Director of the Center for TMJ Disorders and Orofacial Pain at the New Jersey Dental School, part of University of Medicine and Dentistry at New Jersey.
Eliav has a longstanding history for gaining support from National Institutes of Health. He has served on the editorial and scientific boards for several major journals, and is editor-in-chief of Quintessence International.
Hong Hua, DMD, PhD, Peking University School of Stomatology, Bejing, China
Professor Hua is professor and Chairwoman of the Department of Oral Medicine at Peking University, School of Stomatology.
She graduated from Xian Medical University in 1988 where she received a DDS. She then completed her PhD program at the Beijing Medical University in 1992. Dr. Hua worked as visiting scholar at University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry during 1999-2000.
She currently serves as Vice Chairwoman of Specialty Committee of Integration of Traditional and Western Medicine in Dentistry, Chinese Stomatological Association, a member of IADR.
The research interests of Dr. Hua focus on Oral Medicine and correlation with systemic diseases, as well as their treatment with traditional Chinese medicine. Dr. Hua has authored more than 60 scientific articles and 15 book chapters.
Chen Nadler, DMD, PhD, Hadassah-Hebrew University School of Dental Medicine, Jerusalem, Israel; University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada (visiting professor)
As an Oral Medicine Specialist, and in view of the significant advances in maxillofacial imaging worldwide, Dr. Nadler's primary focus is within this rapidly expanding field. During the last four years, she has practiced Maxillofacial Radiology, specifically radiographic interpretations and sialographies, teaching (both undergraduate and grad students) and conducting clinical research. Currently, she is a visiting professor in the Radiology Department, at the University of Toronto. Her areas of interest include educational research (disease mechanism and radiologic interpretation), salivary gland pathologies and bone dysplasias.
Zhimin Yan, DMD, PhD, Peking University School of Stomatology, Bejing, China
She is the associate professor of Peking University School of Stomatology specializing in oral medicine and orofacial pain. She received her DDS from Hebei Medical University (2001) and a PhD from Peking University School of Stomatology (2006) of China. She completed her clinical training in Orofacial Pain at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey during 2008-2009. A Diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain, Dr. Yan’s primary research focus is management of oral candidiasis and orofacial pain disorders from both basic and clinical perspectives. She has published more than 20 research and clinical papers, and also serves as acting editor for chapters of four Chinese textbooks.
Noam Yarom, DMD, Sheba Medical Center, Tel-Hashomer and School of Dental Medicine Tel-Aviv University, Tel-Aviv, Israel
Dr. Noam Yarom received his DMD from the School of Dental Medicine at the Tel-Aviv University. He subsequently completed his Oral Medicine postgraduate program at the same institute. He is a senior lecturer of oral medicine and the program director of postgraduate oral medicine in the Department of Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine at the Tel-Aviv University. He is also the director of the Oral Medicine Clinic at the Sheba Medical Center, Tel-Hashomer.
Dr. Yarom is the immediate past president of the Israeli Society of Oral Medicine and a serves as region V representative at the EAOM board.
Yehuda Zadik, DMD, MHA, Hadassah-Hebrew University School of Dental Medicine, Jerusalem, Israel
Dr. Yehuda Zadik graduated from the Hebrew University-Hadassah School of Dental Medicine. Later, he earned a master's degree in Health Administration at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, and a post-graduation program in Oral Medicine in the Hebrew University-Hadassah School of Dental Medicine.
Currently, Dr. Zadik serves as the Chief Dental Officer of the Israeli Air Forces, and he is attending in the Department of Oral Medicine in the Hebrew University-Hadassah School of Dental Medicine, where he is in-charge of the Clinic for Hematologic and Oncologic Patients. In addition, he is the vice chairperson of the Israeli Society of Oral Medicine. His fields of interest are oral complications of cancer and anti-cancer therapies, and military and aviation dentistry. He published more than 80 articles in the international scientific literature, and five chapters in textbooks. His main research interests are oral cancer and supportive care of cancer patients and he has published extensively on these topics.
