Educational Objectives
This conference will present perspectives on clinical laser dentistry, dosimetry concepts, laser safety, evidence-based approaches to clinical application of lasers in oral medicine, and laser application in medically complex patients and oral medicine.
The workshop portion of the conference is aimed at providing hands-on experience in using lasers for basic procedures in dentistry, oral medicine and medically complex patients.
Speakers
Robert A. Convissar, D.D.S., Diplomate, American Board of Laser Surgery Director of Laser Dentistry, New York Presbyterian Hospital of Queens, Private Practice NYC
Dr. Convissar is a pioneer in the field of laser dentistry. One of the first dentists to incorporate lasers into general practice, Dr. Convissar has over 28 years of experience with CO2, Nd.YAG, Diode and Erbium wavelengths. The author of over 15 peer reviewed papers and author/coauthor of 6 textbooks on laser dentistry, Dr. Convissar has presented over 300 laser seminars on all 5 continents. He practices cosmetic, restorative, and laser dentistry in New York City, where he also serves as Director of Laser Dentistry at New York Presbyterian Hospital Queens. His textbook, "Principles and Practice of Laser Dentistry," now in its 2nd edition, has been the #1 selling laser dentistry textbook in the world for the past 8 years.
Praveen Arany, D.D.S., Ph.D., Assistant Professor, School of Dental Medicine, Engineering & Applied Sciences, University at Buffalo, Buffalo, NY
Dr. Arany is an Assistant Professor of Oral Biology at the University of Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. He completed a joint PhD-Residency program at Harvard University as a Harvard Presidential Scholar and holds certificates in clinical translational research from Harvard Medical School and the National Institute of Health. Dr. Arany held additional fellowships at the Indian Institute of Sciences, the National Cancer Institute and Harvard’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences & Wyss Institute.
Throughout his career, Dr. Arany has published over 80 publications and is the recipient of numerous industry awards. He is an active member of committees including the Academy of Laser Dentistry (ALD) and the American Association for Dental Research (AADR). Currently he is the President of the World Association of Laser Therapy. Dr. Arany’s work has been featured in mainstream media highlights for channels including Fox news, CNN, MSNBC, Washington Post, the BBC, Reuters and MIT technical review.
Sharon Elad, DMD, M.Sc., Professor and Chair, Division of Oral Medicine University of Rochester, Eastman Institute for Oral Health, Rochester, NY
Dr. Elad is a Professor and Chair of the Division of Oral Medicine, at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health (EIOH), at the University of Rochester. In addition, she is the Clinical Chief for Hospital General Dentistry at Strong Memorial Hospital, at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Dr. Elad is currently the Chair of the MASCC/ISOO Mucositis Study Group (MSG). Dr. Elad is also the section head for GVHD and for Viral Infections in the MASCC/ISOO Oral Care Study Group (OCSG). During the years of service in the MSG and OCSG leadership as well as in the ISOO Board she took a lead role in the development and publication of several guidelines and position papers.
Dr. Elad published extensively in professional journals, co-authored multiple book chapters and is an editorial board member in several medical journals. In 2017 Dr. Elad was awarded as an Honorary Diplomate by the American Board of Oral Medicine.
