Advocacy/Policy Pathway
Goals of the Policy/Advocacy Pathway
- Develop a comprehensive advocacy skillset needed to work with government and other agencies to develop policies appropriate to individuals with developmental-behavioral challenges
- Describe and apply the policy analysis tools related to developmental disabilities
- Describe and apply advocacy tools in working with policymakers
- Develop and refine grant-writing skills through experience and mentorship
- Contribute to scholarship through conference presentations, posters, and manuscripts
- Facilitate a smooth transition and offer a competitive advantage when applying for academic faculty or other post-fellowship positions
- Develop a scholarly activity in the domain of policy analysis or advocacy suitable for publication in a peer-reviewed journal
Areas of Policy/Advocacy Emphasis
Research Areas include but are not limited to
- Policy Analysis at private, local/state/national level
- Use of large data sets to assess policy impact
- Participatory Action research
- Impact of advocacy activity

- Participation in resident, community physician, and interdisciplinary advocacy activities in conjunction with Department of Pediatrics CARE Track, LEND and UCEDD programs and Academy of Pediatrics and Society for Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics advocacy projects
- Formal training in policy analysis through MPH program Simon School of Business (MS in Medical Management)
- In-depth training in grant writing
- Opportunities to present work at academic conferences
