Concrete Base Construction
Excavation and installation of shoring for the tower crane concrete base is complete. Micropiles for the foundation have been drilled into place and shoring attached. Installation of reinforcing and anchors will begin next week. A small crane will be setting the anchors in place on March 16, before placement of the concrete pad. Noise from this is expected to be minimal and include engine noises, back up alarms, and heavy equipment tracking around the site.
The Fuel Oil Pump Room concrete work is underway along the south side of the existing South Addition. The Fuel Oil Pump Room is scheduled to be complete and operational by the end of February, early March. Crews continue with forming, installing reinforcing and placing concrete at these locations.
Demolition of the two story portion of the South Building continues with normal levels of construction noise.
Shoring Tomorrow
Sheet shoring panels did not occur on Monday and Tuesday as stated in the last blog post due to unforeseen construction issues, so the work has been rescheduled for tomorrow. The shoring will be done starting at 7 a.m. tomorrow morning and is expected to be finished by the end of the day. As with the previous removals of these shoring panels, there will be loud banging heard as they pull the panels from the ground and possible vibration.
Shoring Early Next Week
Crews will be pulling the last four sheet shoring panels from around the small fuel tank starting on Monday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Tuesday from 7 a.m. until noon next week. As with the previous removals of these shoring panels, there will be loud banging heard as they pull the panels from the ground and possible vibration.

Excavation and installation of shoring for the tower crane pad concrete base is nearly complete. Micropiles for the foundation will be drilled into place next week with installation of reinforcement to follow, then the concrete pad will be poured. Regular levels of truck and construction noise can be expected for all of these activities.

Installation of support rails for the fuel oil piping on the roof of the Observation Unit has started. Crews will be cutting open small sections of the roof in specific locations to attach the rail supports and using torches to warm up the adhesive. Excavation and installation of shoring for the tower crane pad (concrete base) is underway. This is expected to create noise, but not as much as previous shoring as a different type of shoring system is being used. As noted previously, the actual erection of the crane is scheduled to start mid to late Summer.
